AUSTIN, Texas — University of South Carolina women’s diver Lauren Lamendola was selected to the CoSIDA Women’s At-Large Academic All-District 4 Team, it was announced Thursday. Lamendola graduated from South Carolina last week with a B.S. in exercise science.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Lamendola’s senior season was the best of her Gamecock career. She made a pair of A finals at the SEC Championships, finishing fourth in the 1-meter and sixth in 3-meter. She qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time in her four years at Carolina and capped her career with an All-American finish in the 1-meter.
Not just a star on the boards, Lamendola was a terrific student, earning Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors for the Gamecock athletic department. She earned CSCAA Scholar All-American honors in each of her first three seasons and is a four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll pick.
With Lamendola playing a major factor, the Gamecock divers scored the most points among female diving teams at the 2016 SEC Championships. Lamendola was one of three Gamecocks to earn All-America laurels at the NCAA Championships, a first for the program since 2004.
CoSIDA’s Women’s At-Large Academic All-District Teams involve student-athletes from the sports of Beach Volleyball, Bowling, Crew/Rowing, Fencing, Field Hockey, Golf, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Rifle, Skiing, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, and Water Polo.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
