Doubles Duo Highlights Final ITA Rankings

Oracle/ITA Rankings

June 1, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. — After winning a pair of top-10 matches and advancing to the NCAA Doubles Quarterfinals, South Carolina teammates Hadley Berg and Paige Cline finished the season ranked No. 20 in the ITA Doubles Rankings, it was announced Wednesday. The final ranking matches the third-highest for a Gamecock tandem in program history.

Berg/Cline finished the season 14-8 with 11 wins at the top of the lineup this spring, including seven in the SEC. With their first and second round wins in the NCAA Championships, they became just the second tandem in program history to reach the quarterfinals of the event and secure All-America status.

Junior Caroline Dailey highlighted Carolina’s singles rankings. The Sarasota, Fla., native finished the season No. 71 after a solid campaign at the top of the Gamecock lineup and an appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship. Freshman Ingrid Gamarra Martins, who led the team in combined wins this season with 49 to earn SEC All-Freshman honors, rose to No. 76, while Cline closed the year at No. 97 after posting 14 combined SEC victories.

As a team, South Carolina finished No. 17 in the rankings, the highest mark of head coach Kevin Epley’s tenure. The Gamecocks earned a hosting bid in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2002 and advanced to the second round of the tournament for the 19th time in its current streak of 22 straight NCAA appearances. The Gamecocks’ 19 wins this season marked their most since 1995 and South Carolina won nine SEC matches for just the second time in school history.
