COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s golfers Ainhoa Olarra and Marion Veysseyre saw their runs at the 2016 Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship come to an end on Thursday in the event’s first round of match play. Olarra fell to England’s Isobel Wardle, 2-up, while Veysseyre dropped her match to France’s Shannon Aubert, 1-up.

Both Gamecocks advanced into the match-play bracket after earning a top-64 finish during the 36-hole stroke-play portion of the five-day event. Olarra placed in a tie for seventh, totaling a score of 149 (+5). She posted an opening-round 75 (+3) at Dundonald Links before carding a 74 (+2) on Wednesday to grab a top-10 finish.

Veysseyre, the 2016 Amateur French Ladies Individual Champion, notched a two-round score of 153 (+9) to finish in a tie for 29th. She followed up Tuesday’s 76 (+4) with a 77 (+5) in round two, and the rising sophomore tallied four birdies throughout the stroke-play stage.
