Mia Horvit Signs with Gamecock Women's Tennis

July 15, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis head coach Kevin Epley announced today that Palm City, Fla., product Mia Horvit has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play tennis for the Gamecocks. She will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2016-17 season.

“We are very excited to add Mia to the Gamecock roster,” Epley said. “She is a proven player who will have an immediate impact on the team. We have been high on Mia’s ability for a long time and believe she will continue to improve in the years to come.”

Ranked as high as No. 11 in the 2016 recruiting class by TennisRecruiting.net, Horvit has trained at both Centercourt Sports Academy and Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) the last two years, following up on helping her Heritage-Delray High School team to the 2013 Class1A FHSAA Tennis Championship. Horvit claimed the 2012 USTA Girls 16 National Clay Court Championships at just the age of 14 and has been ranked No. 1 in Florida and among the USTA top 10 in every age level. In 2016, she climbed as high as No. 73 in ITF Junior world rankings and has competed in three of the four junior grand slam events – Australian Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.

South Carolina closed out its 2015-16 season with a 19-8 overall record, including a 9-4 mark in SEC action. Behind the program’s most wins since 1995, the Gamecocks played in their 22nd-straight NCAA Tournament, hosting the first and second rounds of the event at Carolina Tennis Center for the first time since 2002.
