Nied Finishes Sixth at USA National Diving Championships

Aug. 14, 2016

MOULTRIE, GA. – University of South Carolina rising sophomore Allyson Nied finished sixth in the 2016 AT&T USA Diving National Championships on Sunday.

“Allyson has done such an impressive job this year taking the bronze at the SEC Championships, receiving All-America honors at NCAAs and finished the year off with a top-six finish at her first USA Senior Nationals,” said South Carolina head diving coach Todd Sherritt. “Quite a feat for a freshman who is new to the National scene. There could be a trip to Tokyo in her future. Today was such an accomplishment.”

The top-18 finishers in the platform competition quarterfinals advanced to the semifinals. Nied qualified easily by placing 11th. The top-12 finishers in the semifinals advance to the finals, where Neid finished sixth with a score of 252.00. Her best dive, a Back 2 1/2 Somersault 1 1/2 Twist Pike, was scored a 65.60. This has been her most successful dive throughout the competition.
