COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s soccer standout Savannah McCaskill has been named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. The accolade marks the third weekly conference honor for the junior forward, who was tabbed the SEC Freshman of the Week twice in 2014.
McCaskill continued her early-season production this past week, leading South Carolina to home wins over No. 6 Clemson (Sept. 3) and Charlotte (Sept. 5). The Chapin, S.C., native delivered the game-winner in both victories, and she notched her fifth career multi-goal game against the Tigers, who entered Saturday’s contest with just two goals allowed on the year. This weekend’s victory over Clemson was South Carolina’s 12th win against a top-10 opponent.
With a goal in the 11th minute against the 49ers on Monday, McCaskill recorded her third game-winner of the season, one more than she totaled in her first two years at South Carolina. McCaskill, who was named to the 2016 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List prior to the season, ranks second in the SEC in points (15) and goals (6), and her three assists are tied for sixth.
Through McCaskill’s efforts, the No. 15 Gamecocks remained unbeaten (5-0-1) on the season following the victories over Clemson and Charlotte. South Carolina will take a five-game winning streak into Friday’s conference opener against Georgia. Kickoff from Stone Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET.
