Four Gamecocks Receive Oracle/ITA Preseason Ranking
Sept. 13, 2016
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Four Gamecocks were recognized when the Oracle/ITA preseason rankings were released Tuesday. The doubles team of Hadley Berg and Paige Cline came in at No. 7 in the country, while Caroline Dailey (No. 51), Ingrid Gamarra Martins (No. 55) and Cline (No. 69) found themselves ranked in singles.
Last season, Berg and Cline joined forces to go 14-8 in doubles play on the way to ITA All-America honors. The tandem made it all the way to the NCAA Doubles Championship Quarterfinals before being ousted by No. 1 North Carolina. The duo’s No. 7 ranking is the program’s highest preseason doubles standing since 1991, which is the last year for which those records exist. In singles, Cline went 18-13 overall and reached as high as No. 43 in the rankings.
Dailey went 6-19 last season, spending most of her time in the No. 1 spot. She posted four wins over ranked opponents on the way to an NCAA Tournament berth. Dailey finished the season ranked No. 71.
Martins ranked second on the team in wins a season ago after posting a 23-12 record. As a freshman this past spring, she reached as high as No. 54 in the rankings and concluded the season at No. 74. After a solid rookie campaign, Martins was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
