Turner Named to Dante Hall Award Watch List

Sept. 13, 2016

University of South Carolina running back A.J. Turner is one of 40 FBS players named to the Dante Hall Award Watch List, it was announced today.

The Dante Hall Award — benefitting Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston — will recognize College Football’s best all-around offensive contributor who literally beats long odds in 2016.

Reflecting the grit and talent of its namesake, an all-time Texas A&M and NFL great, candidates must take the majority of their snaps on the offensive side of the ball or on offensive special teams. Candidates also must be listed in official depth charts as standing under 6-feet tall.

The “X-Factor Trophy” will be presented in conjunction with the annual Advocare V100 Texas Bowl in Houston.

Turner, a 5-10, 195-pound redshirt freshman from Clifton, Va., has been the Gamecocks’ top rusher through two games this season, carrying 29 times for 102 yards. He has also caught five passes for 52 yards and a touchdown.

A selection committee comprised of former players and coaches, along with select media who cover college football will vote on the annual winner.

Three finalists will be invited to Houston, Texas, in late-December, where an award ceremony hosted by CBS Radio Houston will reveal the winner.
