Final Results

RIVERA MAYA, Mexico ââ’¬” South Carolina women’s golfers Katelyn Dambaugh and Isidora Nilsson concluded play at the 27th Women’s World Amateur Team Championship on Saturday. Dambaugh posted a final-round 69 (-3) to finish tied for 19th at 3-over 291 for the U.S., which claimed a sixth-place showing (574, -2), while Nilsson (T89, +20) and Chile placed in a tie for 45th at 50-over 626 for the tournament.

The Republic of Korea won the 72-hole event with a four-day score of 547 (-29), and Switzerland (568, -8) and Ireland (569, -7) rounded out the top three. Korea’s Hye jin Choi earned medalist honors after posting a four-round total of 274 (-14).

Dambaugh, who enters her final season at South Carolina this fall, registered five birdies in her fourth round, beginning on the par-4 third. She added another one on No. 4 before opening her back nine with a birdie on the par-3 10th.

The Goose Creek, S.C., native saw a strong finish to her day, as she birdied Nos. 16 and 17. Dambaugh, listed at No. 11 in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking, shot a team-best 72 (E) in Wednesday’s opening round and moved into the top 10 in the early stages of the second round. She tallied her second-straight 72 (E) on Thursday and carded a 78 (+6) in Friday’s third round.

Nilsson’s final-round score of 73 (+1) marked her best outing of the week. She turned in a steady day that included 15 pars and one birdie, and the Gamecock sophomore’s 72-hole score of 308 (+20) led Chile, one of 55 teams in action at the tournament. Nilsson opened with an 84 (+12) and recorded a second-round score 75 (+3) after notching two birdies on Thursday. She posted a 76 (+4) in her third round and finished the week with six birdies.

The Women’s World Team Amateur was contested at two locations, the Playa Paraiso course and the El Camaleon course. Thirteen of the Top 25 women’s amateurs in the world were in action at the tournament, which takes place every two years.

Dambaugh, Nilsson and South Carolina open their 2016-17 campaign next week at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate (Sept. 25-27). The 54-hole event takes place at the Watson Course in Reunion, Fla.
