Martins Makes Main Draw at ITA All-American Championships

Oct. 5, 2016

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — Gamecock women’s tennis sophomore Ingrid Gamarra Martins sealed her spot in the main draw for singles at the Riviera ITA All-American Championships with a win over Virginia Tech’s Caroline Daxhelet on Wednesday. It marks the first time since 2000 that a Gamecock has made the singles main draw at the tournament.

“We’re very excited for Ingrid to play in the main draw,” said assistant coach Jeff Nevolo. “She earned the opportunity and competed well throughout all three of her matches.”

In the consolation draw, senior Caroline Dailey took down Natalie Suk of Mississippi while Paige Cline fell to Josie Kuhlman of Florida. Cline will now get set to team up with Hadley Berg for the doubles main draw, which begins on Thursday. Martins’ run in the main draw will begin on Thursday as well.

“Paige and Caroline showed some great things in the consolation matches today as well,” said Nevolo. “Tomorrow is a big day for Hadley, Paige and Ingrid. It has been a very productive trip so far and we look forward to competing tomorrow.”
