Hurst Named to John Mackey Midseason Watch List

University of South Carolina tight end Hayden Hurst is one of 30 candidates named to the John Mackey Midseason Watch List, it was announced today.
Hurst, a 6-5, 250-pound sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., leads the Gamecocks with 30 receptions for 388 yards. He is tied for seventh in the SEC with 5.0 receptions per game, and ranks eighth in the league with 64.7 receiving yards per contest.
Given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2016 John Mackey recipient will be announced on December 7, 2016 and then presented live on December 8, 2016 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.
