Gamecocks Finish Day One at ITA Regionals

QUALIFYING SINGLES // MAIN DRAW SINGLES // MAIN DRAW DOUBLES

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Gamecock women’s tennis team finished off its first day of action at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships in Chapel Hill on Thursday. Two doubles teams advancing to the round of 16 highlighted the opening day of play.

Thursday’s schedule began with qualifying singles matches. Alison Mills opened up the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Campbell’s Alex Nicoara in the round of 32. In the next round, Mills fell to Alex Theosossiou of UNC-Wilmington, 6-4, 6-4. With the loss, Mills has been eliminated from contention for the main draw.

The afternoon featured main draw doubles matches. The teams of Silvia Chinellato and Ingrid Gamarra Martins, and Caroline Dailey and Mia Horvit advanced to the round of 16. Chinellato and Martins picked up two wins on the day while Dailey and Horvit received a bye in the first round before posting a win over a pair from East Carolina. Hadley Berg and Brigit Folland also received a first round bye, but the tandem was toppled by Furman’s Katarina Kozarov and Katty Weymouth in the round of 32. Mills and Hannah Templeton dropped their first round match to a duo from Duke.

Friday’s slate will see the Gamecocks compete in both singles and doubles. Matchups for tomorrow can be found below.
