Gamecocks Finish Second Day at Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carolina men’s tennis team closed out its second day of play at the Charlotte Invitational on Saturday. Each Gamecock in action picked up at least one win on the day.
“The boys had some mixed results today but put in a great effort throughout both singles and doubles play,” said assistant coach Pablo Bellagamba. “We are looking to come out tomorrow and finish on a high note heading into the SEC Fall Classic and Bulldog Scramble next weekend. “
In the A1 singles draw, Wood Benton fell to Duke’s Spencer Furman before rebounding in his second match to defeat Felipe Jaworski of Georgia State. Alex Fennell posted a win in his quarterfinal contest over Appalachian State’s Milo Bargeron, but fell in the semifinals to Diego Quiroz of Winthrop. Benton and Fennell will play consolation matches on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., respectively.
In the A2 draw, Sam Swank was resilient in capturing two three-set victories. The senior will now play in the consolation final on Sunday at 10 a.m. against Clemson’s Brent Lett.
Rounding out singles play, in the B1 draw, was Scotty Cameron. The freshman went 1-1 on Saturday, posting a win in his quarterfinal match before falling in the semifinals. He will play a consolation match at 10:30 a.m. against Arturo Pinazo of Clemson.
