Carolina Comes out Firing at Jack Kramer Invite

Nov. 4, 2016

LOS ANGELES – Despite getting in at the last minute due to travel complications, the Carolina women’s tennis team was excellent on day one of the Jack Kramer Collegiate Invitational on Thursday. When all was said and done, the Gamecocks owned nearly a third off the spots in the singles round of 16 after the opening day of action.

South Carolina began Thursday with doubles play in the afternoon. Hadley Berg and Brigit Folland posted an 8-5 win over UC Riverside’s Khattab and Wolfe. Joining them in advancing to the round of 16 was Caroline Dailey and Mia Horvit, who received a bye in the opening round. Carolina’s third pair of Alison Mills and Hannah Templeton dropped their match, by a score of 8-5, to Baker and Yamada of UC Santa Barbara.

The Gamecocks made their mark in the evening with their solid singles performance. Dailey, Berg, Horvit, Templeton and Silvia Chinellato all went 2-0 to reach the round of 16, which is set to kick off at 4 p.m. ET on Friday. Folland opened with a win over UCLA’s Kristin Wiley, but fell in the second round to Palina Dubavets of UC Santa Barbara, while Mills fell to Dubavets’ teammate, Melissa Baker, in the first round.
