Gamecocks Put Four in Quarterfinals at Jack Kramer Invite

Nov. 4, 2016

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Carolina women’s tennis team was outstanding in singles play once again on the second day of action at the Jack Kramer Collegiate Invitational on Friday. By the end of the evening, four Gamecocks had cemented their place in the quarterfinals.

“We started very slow with doubles today but picked it up significantly in the afternoon singles matches,” said head coach Kevin Epley. “We fought hard to come through some tough three-setters and are entering tomorrow with four in the quarterfinals. We expect a competitive day on Saturday and we’re looking forward to some tough matches to round out the fall season.”

Friday’s slate began with doubles play. Hadley Berg and Brigit Folland fell to Southern California’s duo of Katz and Westby, while Caroline Dailey and Mia Horvit opened with a win over Nuno and Portalatin of Cal State Fullerton before dropping their quarterfinal match to Northwestern’s Doshi and Rooney. On the consolation side of things, Alison Mills and Hannah Templeton took down UTEP’s Bennett and Visscher.

The Gamecocks closed out the day with one round of singles. Dailey, Berg, Horvit and Silvia Chinellato each advanced to the quarterfinals with victories. Templeton’s run ended with a loss to Fresno State’s Katerina Stloukalova. In the consolation bracket, Mills fell to Savannah Ware of BYU.

Saturday’s schedule will see Carolina begin with singles at 12:30 p.m. ET. The full schedule, as well as draws, can be found via the link at the top of the story.
