Gamecocks Solid Again as Team Enters Final Day of Fall

Nov. 6, 2016

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Carolina women’s tennis team wrapped up its third day at the Jack Kramer Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. The highlight of the day was freshman Mia Horvit advancing to the singles final.

“We played some very strong tennis today,” said head coach Kevin Epley. “While we would have liked if they were on opposite sides of the draw, Mia and Hadley [Berg] played a terrific tennis match. The level was very high and they handled the situation well. We are excited that Mia will be competing on the final day, and if she playes like she did in the afternoon today, she definitely has a chance.”

Horvit started the day with a win over Fresno State’s Katerina Stloukalova. Hadley Berg slid past fellow Gamecock Silvia Chinellato, setting up a semifinal tilt between Horvit and Berg. Horvit came out on top by a score of 6-3, 6-3 to reach Sunday’s final against Terri Fleming of UCLA at 2 p.m. ET. Fleming took down Caroline Dailey en route to the championship match.

Sunday will be the final day of the fall season for the Gamecocks.
