COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s soccer (18-1-1) earned the program’s first No. 1 NCAA Tournament seed when the 64-team field was announced Monday afternoon. The second-ranked Gamecocks will host Alabama State University in the tournament’s opening round on Fri., Nov. 11, at Stone Stadium. Kickoff between Carolina and Hornets is scheduled for 7 p.m.

“We’re honored to be a number one seed, and we’re excited about the opportunity we’ve been given.” South Carolina women’s soccer coach Shelley Smith said. “Having home field advantage is tremendous. We have the best fans in the country, and we’re going to use that to our advantage.”

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and children (17 and under). Fans can call the ticket office at 1-800-4SC-FANS, and tickets will be available for purchase on the day of the match. The first 250 South Carolina students will receive free admission at the Whaley Street entrance.

The Gamecocks, who have spent the last six weeks ranked in the top five of the NSCAA Coaches’ Poll, boasted a program-best 18-match winning streak during the regular season and captured the SEC Regular-Season Title after going 11-0-0 in league play. The team’s current No. 2 ranking and No. 3 mark in the NCAA Soccer RPI standings are both the highest in school history.
