ATLANTA – University of South Carolina senior Darius English was named to the Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference team, it was announced Thursday.
A 6-6 defensive lineman from Powder Springs, Ga., English is a second-team selection on the AP’s all-conference team. The senior leads the Gamecocks with 9.0 sacks, a mark that is tied for third in the SEC at the conclusion of the regular season. That number is also tied for fifth on Carolina’s single-season record list.
English had the best individual performance of his collegiate career Sept. 24 against Kentucky, when he made 3.0 sacks and forced a fumble. He registered at least a half-sack in nine of Carolina’s 12 regular-season contests, and he notched another career high Nov. 12 with 10 tackles at Florida.
For the season, English ranks fifth among Gamecocks and tops among Carolina defensive linemen with 57 total tackles. His 12.5 tackles for loss pace the squad, and his 15.0 career sacks rank ninth in Carolina history.
English completes his collegiate career on Thursday, Dec. 29, when the Gamecocks (6-6) face No. 25/22 USF (10-2) in the Birmingham Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET at Legion Field in Birmingham, with live television coverage available on ESPN.
