Gamecock Women Shine on Final Day of Carolina College Invite

DURHAM, N.C. – The Gamecock women were the highlight of day three for the University of South Carolina swim team as they wrapped up their time in Durham, N.C. at the Janis Hape Dowd Carolina College Nike Invitational.

Sophomore Maggie Langdale claimed the final victory for the Gamecocks as she took first in the 200-yard backstroke. Carolina also earned three A-final finishes with two podium finishes.

Katie O’Brien and Katie Shannahan both made the A-final for the 200-yard butterfly, with O’Brien finishing in fifth while Shannahan came in at seventh. Carolina’s squad for the 400-yard freestyle relay was made up of Charlsie Reneski, Caroline Petrone, Mairyn Branaman and Cooper Brown and earned a third-place finish.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

• Maggie Langdale set a new personal best in the 200-yard backstroke after touching in 2:02.37 to earn first place.
• Freshman Nic Pease recorded a personal best in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:48.86.
• With a time of 52.63 in the 100-yard freestyle prelims, Caroline Petrone set a new season best time.
• The 200-yard butterfly was kind to both Gamecock women who made it to the finals. Katie O’Brien (2:04.19) and Katie Shannahan (2:05.28) each set new personal bests in the events.
