AWENDAW, S.C. — South Carolina men’s golf fired a final-round 279 (-9) to claim a four-shot victory at the 2017 Hootie At Bulls Bay Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon. The Gamecocks, who won the event for the third-straight season, finished with a three-day total of 844 (-20).

Carolina junior Keenan Huskey closed his strong week at Bulls Bay Golf Club with a 5-under 67 on the way to third-place honors with a 54-hole mark of 206 (-10). The Gamecock standout, who finished two shots off the individual title, opened his day on fire, notching birdies on six of his first 11 holes. He made the turn at 4-under 33 before kicking off his back nine with birdies on Nos. 10 and 11.

Jamie Wilson marked the other Carolina golfer to grab a top-five finish, as the freshman placed in a tie for fifth at 7-under 209. He carded a 68 (-4) on day three in a round that was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 fourth. Wilson shot par or better on each of his last nine holes and added birdies on Nos. 10 and 17.

Gamecock sophomore Scott Stevens finished under par for the second-straight day to end his week in a tie for 17th (215, -1). He posted a 1-under 71 Tuesday after turning in an up-and-down round that included five birdies and a pair of bogeys.

Fellow sophomore Ryan Stachler placed in a tie for 30th (217, +1) after shooting a 1-over 73 in the final round. He registered 15 pars on his day to go along with a birdie on the par-5 fourth. Redshirt junior Ben Dietrich finished tied for 71st with a three-day mark of 226 (+10), while sophomore Will Miles tied for 17th (215, -1) after competing as an individual.

Ole Miss earned runner-up honors with a 54-hole total of 848 (-16), and NC State and Auburn tied for third at 10-under 854 for the tournament. Ben Wolcott of the Rebels won individual medalist honors after posting a three-round mark of 12-under 204.

It’s one of the most gratifying wins I’ve had as a coach, and my hopes are that they use this experience to springboard into the postseason with some momentum. Ole Miss played some great golf too. They are one of the most talented and well-coached teams that we’ve played against in a long time. We were very fortunate to win, that’s for sure.”

Carolina junior Keenan Huskey found his stroke early in round three with six birdies over his opening 11 holes. Huskey’s 14 birdies on the week led the Gamecocks.

Tuesday’s win marked the 19th victory for Carolina under head coach Bill McDonald. McDonald is the program’s all-time leader in wins.
With his third-place showing, junior Keenan Huskey notched his team-leading fourth top-five finish of the season.
Carolina freshman Jamie Wilson was tied for first in the field in par-3 scoring (2.93). His performance this week earned the Mt. Pleasant, S.C., native his first career top-five finish.
The Gamecocks paced the 15-team field in par-3 scoring average with a mark of 3.15.

Up Next for the Gamecocks

Carolina has an off week and will get back on the course at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in Kannapolis, N.C., on April 8-9. It’ll be the final event of the regular season for the Gamecocks before heading to the SEC Championship April 21-24 in St. Simons Island, Ga.
