Gamecock Senior Victoria Williams Earns Second CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 Honor
May 4, 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Gamecock senior Victoria Williams earned a spot on the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 softball team, the second of her career, as the College Sports Information Directors of America announced this year’s district winners today.
Williams is the Gamecocks’ leading hitter in SEC play with a .356 batting average against the nation’s top teams. Hitting .307 overall, Williams ranks second on the team with five doubles and third with 25 RBI. She has helped the team in wins at No. 14/13 Tennessee and Mississippi State, hitting a two-run homer in the victory in Knoxville before going 3-for-3 with an RBI in the triumph in Starkville. She also started the rally at No. 22/25 Georgia with a double to help the Gamecocks win the series against the Bulldogs.
In her career, Williams has tallied 12 top-20 marks on South Carolina’s career lists. She’s a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and a three-time NFCA Scholar-Athlete who majors in elementary education.
Williams becomes the fifth Gamecock to earn the accolade twice in her career and is the first since Ashton Payne gained the honor in three-straight years (2007-09). Williams moves onto the national ballot, where she will compete against the seven other districts for a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America teams, which will be released on May 25 for NCAA Division I.
The Gamecocks host No. 18/19 LSU this weekend at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field, with South Carolina honoring its senior class prior to each game. All three games are slated to be on the SEC Network, with Friday’s game a part of the whiparound coverage known as Bases Loaded. First pitch on Friday is set for 7 p.m., with Saturday’s start slated for 6 p.m. EDT. Sunday’s regular-season finale begins at 12 noon.
