EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — No. 11 South Carolina’s golf sits in second place at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate after opening the 54-hole event with a 3-over 291 Sunday at Olympic Hills Golf Club. Sophomores Anita Uwadia and Lois Kaye Go both carded a 71 (-1) on day one to pace the Gamecocks, who will enter Monday’s second round three shots off the lead.

Top-ranked Arkansas sits atop the 12-team field after posting a 288 (E), while No. 16 Stanford is in third place following its 6-over 294. Southern California’s Robynn Ree and Stanford’s Mika Liu hold the individual lead with an 18-hole score of 68 (-4).

Uwadia turned in a steady performance in round one, totaling 14 pars to go with three birdies and a bogey. The Okoko, Nigeria, native notched back-to-back birdies on Nos. 13 and 14 en route to a 35 (-1) on her front nine, and she added another one on the par-4 eighth. Uwadia will head into the second day in a tie for sixth.

Go (T6, -1) opened her day with eight-straight pars and made the turn at 1-over 37 following a bogey on No. 18. She boasted a strong showing on her back nine, registering seven pars and birdies on Nos. 4 and 8.

Gamecock senior Ainhoa Olarra finished the day in a tie for 14th after opening with a 2-over 74. The San Sebastian, Spain, native recovered from three early bogeys, shooting par or better on each of her final 13 holes. Birdies on Nos. 5 and 9 highlighted the stretch for Olarra, who shot a back-nine 35 (-1).

Carolina junior Marion Veysseyre (T22) recorded 14 pars and a birdie on No. 18 en route to a first-round 75 (+3), while sophomore Ana Pelaez (T29) fired a 4-over 76. Pelaez started her round with nine-straight pars.

Gamecock sophomore Lois Kaye Go enjoyed a solid back nine Sunday after totaling seven pars to go with birdies on Nos. 4 and 8. Her 71 (-1) on day one marked her second under-par performance for Carolina this season.

South Carolina’s 67 pars and 4.06 par-4 scoring average in round one led the 12-team field at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate.

Anita Uwadia has shot par or better in each of her first four rounds of the season. The sophomore boasted rounds of par or better four times all of last year.
Sophomore Lois Kaye Go’s 15 pars in the first round were tied for the most among the 60 golfers in action.
