WILMINGTON, N.C. — South Carolina women’s golf placed fourth at the Landfall Tradition after Sunday’s final round at the Country Club of Landfall was canceled due to inclement weather. The No. 9 Gamecocks finished the event with a two-round mark of 577 (+1).

Gamecock senior Ainhoa Olarra grabbed a top-five finish after posting a 70 (-2) in rounds one and two. She tied for fifth with a 36-hole total of 140 (-4) and recorded just one bogey in two days of action.

Carolina’s Ana Pelaez opened the tournament with back-to-back 73s (+1) to finish in a tie for 23rd at 2-over 146, while fellow sophomore Anita Uwadia tied for 28th with a two-day mark of 3-over 147.

Lois Kaye Go (150, +6) ended the event in a tie for 47th, and Gamecock junior Marion Veysseyre (154, +10) finished the weekend tied for 73rd.

No. 4 Duke (562, -14) captured the Landfall Tradition title with a 36-hole mark of 562 (-14), while No. 2 Alabama (563, -13) and No. 16 Michigan State (574, -2) rounded out the top-three spots. Ana Belac of the Blue Devils and Virginia’s Beth Lillie shared medalist honors with a two-round mark of 135 (-9).

NOTABLE

  • The Gamecocks closed their fall season with back-to-back top-five finishes. Carolina placed third at the 2017 Tar Heel Invitational (Oct. 13-15).
  • Carolina posted two of the program’s four lowest 54-hole totals this fall — Tar Heel Invitational (846, 1st); Mason Rudolph Championship (853, 4th).
  • Senior Ainhoa Olarra ended her fall slate with back-to-back top-five showings. She earned runner-up honors at the Tar Heel Invitational after posting the second-lowest 54-hole mark (205, -11) in program history.
  • Olarra’s 3.80 par-4 scoring average ranked first among golfers at the Landfall Tradition.

South Carolina opens its spring season in February. The Gamecocks will release their spring slate at the conclusion of the fall semester.
