Divers Compete at Auburn Invitational

Dec. 19, 2017

AUBURN, Ala. – Three Gamecock divers competed at the Auburn Diving Invitational on Tuesday. Allyson Nied, Mikaela Lujan and Grant Summers each dove platform, marking the second time this season they’ve competed in the event.

“Everyone had a good day today,” head diving coach Todd Sherritt said. “This was a training meet for us to get some objectives before the break. Everyone was performing new dives here, and all of them went quite well. Allyson had a strong finish today, placing second, and Mikaela placed third on platform. Grant Summers, who is new to the platform event, did a good job. Everything is going in the right direction to have a successful conference meet this year. The Tennessee Invitational is next on our list and this meet helped us prepare for that after the break.”

On the women’s platform, Nied started strong by boasting the event’s highest degree of difficulty. She finished second at the competition with a score of 271.20, finishing with her strongest dive, a back 2 ½ somersault tuck, for a net score of 58.50. Mikaela Lujan finished right behind her with a score of 233.80 for third place.

Summers was the Gamecock’s lone representative on the men’s platform. He checked in with a score of 215.85 to take 14th at the competition.

The Gamecocks will be back in action on January 13th when they travel to East Carolina for a dual meet.
