Softball To Honor Superwomen In 2018
Jan. 18, 2018
COLUMBIA, S.C. –In 2017 South Carolina softball honored “superwomen” who are standouts in the community by inviting those individuals to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before games at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field, and after a successful inaugural class the Gamecocks will once again recognize some of Carolina’s best in 2018.
2017’s inaugural class included women’s soccer head coach Shelley Smith, Alicia Barnes, Cheri Kempf, women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley, S.S.G. Ebony Jackson, Grainne Owen, associate athletic director Judy Van Horn, Kaela Fleming, Kim Wellman, Liz McMillian and Robbin Moss.
“This is a neat way to recognize people who have done some really great things in our community,” head coach Bev Smith Smith said at the time of the announcement last season.
As was the case in 2017, Carolina softball is calling on you, the fans, to help nominate the honorees for this season. Anyone interested in nominating someone to be recognized as a superwoman can email South Carolina assistant director of marketing Joe O’Clair (OCLAIR@mailbox.sc.edu). Please include the person’s name, as well as a short write-up explaining why you believe they should be honored.
