Indoor Meet #4 — Darius Dixon Memorial invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. — The University of South Carolina track & field team was in action Friday night as the Gamecocks opened the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational. Three Gamecocks made finals on what was a light day of competition at Liberty University.

Carolina fielded entries in just three events on Friday. The vast majority of events are scheduled for Saturday, with competition set to begin at 10 a.m. ET.

Sophomore Eric Favors was the first Gamecock in action, and he attained a new PR in the weight throw. The Pomona, N.Y., native finished fifth on Friday with an effort of 53-11.

Two Gamecocks made the finals of the women’s weight throw. Alycia Springs set a new PR and finished eighth with a mark of 57-0 ¼, while KD Young took ninth, at 55-4 ¼.

FROM THE COACH

“There weren’t many events for us today, but I was proud of Eric for throwing a season best, and I was really pleased to see Alycia and KD continue to improve and make the finals tonight. Most of the competition is Saturday, and Liberty has an outstanding facility. We’re excited to be here and ready to accomplish a lot tomorrow.”– Head Coach Curtis Frye
