BLACKSBURG, Va.- South Carolina swimming totaled 11 entries in A-finals and amassed two individual victories from them in the second day of competition at the Virginia Tech ‘Technotational’ on Saturday. The Gamecock women added a win in the 800 free relay and two B-final victories to their collection as well.

The women carried the day for South Carolina with seven of the 11 A-final entries to go along with five B-final swims.

Megu Seidenberger touched first in the A-final of the 100 breaststroke with a career-best time of 1:05.33. Freshman Caroline Spence posted a pair of fifth-place A-final showings in the 100 butterfly (56.92) and the 100 breaststroke (1:06.15). The Gamecocks went on to go 1-2 in the B-final of the 100 breaststroke with Elizabeth Mandrgoc (1:07.84) and Allison Wade (1:08.13).

With three entries in the eight-swimmer A-final of the 100 backstroke, the Gamecocks took third, sixth and seventh with Savannah Hillmeyer, Lauren Hilt and Rebecca Cohen, respectively. In the B-final of the event, Gamecocks Danielle Doennebrink and Katherine McComas touched first and second, respectively, with times of 59.35 and 59.50.

In the 200 free, Makenzie Miller was eighth in the A-final with a time of 1:53.83, while senior Katherine Malinski touched sixth in the B-final.

The women rounded out the competition with a time of 7:54.76 to take the 800 free relay with the team of Charlsie Reneski, Miller, Megan Jones and Malinski.

On the men’s side, the Gamecocks got strong performances in the 400 IM with Brandonn Almeida and Jack Smith going 1-2 in both the prelims and the A-final. Almeida’s 3:51.58 in the final was the Gamecocks’ third-best 400 IM time of the season, while Smith touched in 3:56.30 to slot into fourth on the team’s season charts.

Freshman Alexander Overton took second in the A-final of the 100 butterfly with his season-best time of 50.26. Another freshman Jack Best advanced to the 100 backstroke A-final, touching in his season-best time of 51.54 to take fifth.

Competition in the ‘Technotational’ wraps up on Sunday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 5 p.m.
