Indoor Meet #6 — UCS Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Several Gamecocks took important steps on the road to the postseason Saturday, as the University of South Carolina track & field team finished its indoor regular season at the UCS Invitational. Carolina captured two event victories and eight podiums at the JDL Fast Track.

Milan Parks (60m) and Yann Randrianasolo (long jump) each won their event on Saturday. Randrianasolo, Hailey Sweatman (pole vault) and Armand Woodley (pole vault) each set PRs that made a new entry on Carolina’s all-time top-10 list.

Parks and Funlayo Oluwole easily took the top two spots in 60mH prelims, and the duo swept away the field once again in the final. Parks was the winner in a time of 8.48, and Oluwole came in second, at 8.63.

Randrianasolo provided one of the highlights of the day with his effort in the long jump. The Toulouse, France, native hit a new PR, jumping 25-2 ¾. That’s the fifth-best mark in Carolina history and ranks 25th in the nation this season.

Woodley’s steady climb up the Carolina record books continued Saturday in the pole vault. The Orlando, Fla., product vaulted 16-10 ¾ to finish second. That’s a new indoor PR for the junior and ranks ninth in Carolina history.

Arinze Chance earned his first podium as a Gamecock with a third-place finish in the 400m. The Guyana native stopped the clock in 49.20

Two Gamecocks finished on the podium in the women’s 60m. Parks took second with a time of 7.61, and she barely edged Amecia Pennamon, who collected her first collegiate podium with a time of 7.62.

Sweatman closed the day with Carolina’s eighth and final top-three placement. The sophomore’s pole vault mark of 13-5 ¼ was a new PR, the 35th-best mark in the nation this season and the fourth-best indoor effort in Gamecock history.

FROM THE COACH

“This was a great day. The kids we brought here really performed well. We had lots of season bests and PRs. Yann was great in the long jump, with a lifetime best, and we’re thrilled with that. The great thing is that he’s got a lot left, and I’m ready to see him next week at the conference. Milan and Funalyo were great in the hurdles, and our sprinters also had good days. Coach Brown and our strength program have been doing great things with our pole-vaulters, and really our entire team is developing well. We’re building to great performances next week, and I can’t wait for College Station.”– Head Coach Curtis Frye

UP NEXT FOR THE GAMECOCKS

The indoor postseason begins next week for the Gamecocks. Carolina will compete at the 2018 SEC Indoor Championships, to be held Feb. 24-25 in College Station, Texas.
