Gamecocks compete in day one of NCAA Zone B Championships; Vincent qualifies for NCAA Championships

University of South Carolina diver Julia Vincent punched her ticket to the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships on Monday with a win in the women’s 1-meter dive on day one of the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships.
Vincent has now finished in the top-five in the 1m at the NCAA Zone B Championships each of her four years at South Carolina and has won the event in back-to-back seasons, finishing with a score of 645.40.
WOMEN’S RECAP
Vincent finished atop the women’s 1-meter leaderboard with an average score of 55.29 during finals. Vincent also topped the preliminary round with a final score of 313.65.
In the finals, Vincent separated herself from the field with strong scores in her third and fourth dives. Her back 1-1/2 somersault pike scored 8.0-9.0 across the seven judges. She followed with 8.5s from three of the seven judges on her reverse 2-1/2 somersault tuck, her fourth dive of the finals session, which carried a 3.0 degree of difficulty.
Three Gamecocks competed in the meet finals after Mikaela Lujan finished the prelims in eighth with a score of 273.60 and Karlee Price placed ninth with a prelim score of 272.90.
Lujan finished just three spots outside of qualifying position with a 543.10 finals score, while Price finished in 12th place with a finals score of 538.05.
MEN’S RECAP
Grant Summers competed in the men’s 3-meter dive but missed qualification for the final rounds with a score of 286.10.
