University of South Carolina diver Julia Vincent qualified for her second event in the upcoming NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships by winning the women’s 3-meter dive on day two of the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships on Tuesday. Vincent also won the 1-meter dive for a second year in a row to qualify for the NCAA Championships in that event on day one competition on Monday.
Vincent has now finished in the top-10 of the women’s 3m at the Zone B Championships in each of her four years at South Carolina, winning the event in both her freshman and senior seasons.
South Carolina currently sits atop the overall women’s team leaderboard and fourth place in the overall team championship standings with one day of competition remaining.
DAY 2 RECAP
Vincent got off to a strong start with a score of 70.50 on her first dive, a forward 2 ½ somersault 1 twist pike, garnering scores of 7.5 or above from all seven judges. She followed up with a forward 3 ½ somersault pike on her second dive that earned a score of 71.30.
Vincent finished the 3m finals with an average round score of 62.08, completing all six dives on day two with a 2.9 degree of difficulty or higher.
Karlee Price and Mikaela Lujan each qualified for the 3m finals as they did in the 1-meter competition on day one, but again fell outside of qualifying position. Price finished in 11th place in the finals, just 13.30 points outside of qualification in her final event of the Zone B Championships.
Lujan missed qualification with a 13th place finish but will have an opportunity to punch her ticket to the NCAA Championships in tomorrow’s platform competition. Lujan is also still eligible to advance to the 1-meter dive at the NCAA Championships if she is able to qualify in the platform after finishing in 10th place in the 1m on day one.

HEAD DIVING COACH TODD SHERRITT – “Julia Vincent had another outstanding performance dominating the field. After winning the 1-meter, she turned around and won the 3-meter handily and is on course to have a solid NCAA’s. Mikaela (Lujan) and Karlee (Price) both put in some great dives today, unfortunately Karlee had one miss which knocked her out of the top-7 to qualify for the NCAA’s. Mikaela stayed steady but had a miss as well which put her back in 13th. Overall it was a decent day, of course not getting everyone in is a disappointment. Hopefully tomorrow, Mikaela will have a top nine finish to qualify for the 1-meter and the platform in an at-large spot.”

Zone Diving concludes on Wednesday with the men’s and women’s platform competitions.
