Indoor Meet #8 — NCAA Indoor Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — South Carolina senior sprinter Ncincilili Titi garnered first-team All-America honors in the 200m on the final day of the 2018 NCAA Track and Field Indoor Championships Saturday at Gilliam Indoor Stadium.

The Gamecocks, who had seven student-athletes compete this weekend, finished in a tie for 21st place on the men’s side with 10 points. The Carolina women tied for 54th after totaling one point for the meet.

Titi placed fifth in the national finals of the 200m after posting a time of 20.65. Saturday’s showing handed the Butterworth, South Africa, native first-team All-America laurels at the NCAA Indoor Championships for the second-straight year. Titi will head into his final outdoor season as a seven-time All-American.

Carolina’s Hanifah Abdulqadir was also in action on the final day, as she competed in the women’s triple jump. The junior boasted a mark of 12.99 en route to second-team All-America honors and an 11th-place finish. She opened the event with a jump of 12.86 before posting her best mark of the day on her second attempt.

Florida captured the NCAA Indoor Championship on the men’s side with 40 points, while Georgia finished first on the women’s side with 61 points.

NOTABLE

• The Gamecock men (T21) posted their highest finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2010 when they placed eighth.

• Senior Ncincilili Titi is the 9th student-athlete in program history to collect seven or more All-America honors while at Carolina.

• Titi’s performance (5th) in the 200m Saturday marked his highest finish and the program’s third-best showing in the event at the NCAA Indoor Championships. He placed eighth in the 200m in 2017.

• Carolina junior Hanifah Abdulqadir became the fourth Gamecock this weekend to collected her first career All-America laurels, joining Lissa Labiche (Second Team, High Jump), Jordan Fields (Second Team, High Jump) and Yann Randrianasolo (Second Team, Long Jump).

• Senior Josh Awotunde marked the second Gamecock to score points on the men’s side this weekend. He totaled six points with a third-place showing in the men’s shot put Friday.
