MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — South Carolina was unable to make the push it needed to climb the leaderboard on Sunday, as it shot 296 (+8) in the final round of the General Hackler Championship. The Gamecocks placed 10th in the 15-team field.

Senior Keenan Huskey was the only golfer in the lineup to shoot par or better as he carded a 72 in the third round to finish T-22nd. The Greenville, S.C., native had four birdies to lead the team. He bounced back from a double bogey on his opening hole this morning shooting 2-under over his final 17 holes.

Senior Ben Dietrich carded a 1-over 73 in Sunday’s final round to finish the tournament T-26th at 2-over. Sophomore Scott Stevens carded a 3-over 75 to finish T-38th at 5-over for the tournament.

Sophomore Jamie Wilson finished 77th and fellow sophomore Caleb Proveaux finished 79th. Junior Will Miles played as an individual and finished T-64th after shooting a 2-over 74 today.

No. 8 Georgia Tech took home the team title with a five-shot win over No. 2 Texas A&M. The Jackets turned in a 7-under 281 today. Tech’s Chris Petefish took home medalist honors after carding a three-round total of 209 (-7).

ROUND CHANGER Keenan Huskey

Huskey posted back-to-back even par 72s to conclude the tournament, his 12th and 13th rounds of par or better this season. Five of his six rounds this spring have been played at par or better. The 2017 All-SEC and PING All-Southeast Region selection has shot par or better 55 times in his four-year career as a Gamecock.

NOTABLE

  • 2017 All-American Keenan Huskey T-2nd in the field with 14 birdies.
  • Senior Ben Dietrich finished second on the team with 10 birdies. Junior Will Miles, playing as an individual, had 11 birdies. Just 22 players in the 84-man field had double-digit red numbers this weekend.
  • This is just the second time in seven events during the 2017-18 season the Gamecocks have finished outside the top-five as a team.

UP NEXT

The Gamecocks head to Palm City, Florida to compete in the Valspar Collegiate Invitational on March 18-20. The annual tournament, played at Floridian Golf Club, features one of the best fields in the country every year.
