No. 9 Women’s Golf at Bryan National Collegiate

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. — South Carolina women’s golf earned a top-five finish at the Bryan National Collegiate after moving up two spots on the leaderboard in the final round of the 54-hole event Saturday at Bryan Park Golf Course.

The No. 9 Gamecocks posted a third-round 304 (+16) in rainy conditions to end the tournament in fifth place with a two-day total of 898 (+34).

Carolina’s Lois Kaye Go tied for third individually following a 3-over 75 Saturday. Go, who boasted a three-round mark of 219 (+3), totaled 13 pars over her final 18 holes. She notched her lone birdie of the day on her second hole, the par-3 seventh.

Senior Ainhoa Olarra fired the low round among Gamecocks, posting a 1-over 73. The San Sebastian, Spain, native, who tied for 16th at 9-over 225, notched back-to-back birdies on Nos. 10 and 11 and closed her tournament with six-straight pars.

Carolina junior Marion Veysseyre also grabbed a top-25 finish after totaling a three-round score of 226 (+10). Veysseyre tallied 12 pars and six bogeys en route to a final-round 78 (+6). The third-year golfer ended the weekend tied for 21st.

Ana Pelaez tied for 32nd (+12), while fellow Gamecock sophomore Anita Uwadia placed in a tie for 73rd. Pelaez notched her lone birdie of the day on the par-3 seventh and shot a 78 (+6). Uwadia turned in an up-and-down round that included four birdies.

Carolina’s Gaby Amos was also in action this weekend, competing as an individual. The Gainesville, Fla., native posted a final-round 80 (+8) and finished tied for 58th (+19).

No. 21 Wake Forest won the Bryan National Collegiate with a three-round score of 888 (+24), while No. 7 Furman (893, +29) grabbed runner-up honors. Jennifer Kupcho of the Demon Deacons captured the individual title after finishing at 1-under 215.

South Carolina opens postseason play at the 2018 SEC Women’s Golf Championship (Apr. 18-22) in Birmingham, Ala. The five-day event at Greystone Golf Club will feature three rounds of stroke play before the field is cut to an eight-team match-play bracket.
