Gamecocks Earn Six Top-10 Finishes in Atlanta Classic Swim Meet

ATLANTA, Ga. ¬Emma Barksdale captured a win in the women’s 200-meter IM and had two additional top-10 finishes in the 2018 Atlanta Classic Swim Meet, in which 13 South Carolina swimmers (nine men, four women) competed in last weekend at the Georgia Tech McAuley Aquatic Center.
The Gamecocks had six total top-10 finishes at the meet, which were highlighted by Barksdale’s win in the 200m IM and third-place finish in the 400m IM.
DAY 1 RECAP
Emma Barksdale topped the B-final of the 200m freestyle with a 2:04.28 and also qualified for the 400m IM A-final, finishing third with a 4:48.90 during the evening session.
Lionel Khoo finished in fifth place in the men’s 100m breaststroke with a 1:03.42. Ana Menendez-Nava narrowly missed A-final qualification in the women’s 100m breaststroke and posted the eighth-best time during finals with a 1:12.67 in the B-final.
DAY 2 RECAP
Will Riggs posted South Carolina’s first top-10 finish on the second day of competition with a 2:07.89 in the A-final of the men’s 200m butterfly.
Emma Barksdale continued her strong showing with a 4:24.55 in the 400m freestyle to qualify for the women’s A-final. She would later cut her time to 4:20.95 to finish ninth in the event.
DAY 3 RECAP
Barksdale began the final session of the meet with a 12th-place finish in the women’s 800-meter freestyle and followed up by topping the podium of the 200m IM with a 2:15.58 finals time.
Lionel Khoo picked up his second top-10 finish of the weekend with a 2:07.69 in the A-final of the men’s 200m IM. Tom Peribonio finished atop the leaderboard in prelims of the 200m IM but did not compete in the evening’s A-final.
