Boesel Named Academic All-American

COLUMBIA, S.C. –South Carolina softball’s Mackenzie Boesel earned a spot on the 2018 Academic All-America Division I Softball Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the national organization announced today.
The Yorba Linda, Calif., native led the Gamecocks in batting average (.360), slugging percentage (.596), on-base percentage (.440), runs (53), hits (73), RBI (47), doubles (18), triples (3), walks (25) and total bases (121). She notably shined in conference play, leading Carolina with a .373 batting average and a .453 on-base percentage.
Boesel becomes the 10th Gamecock in program history to take Academic All-America honors and the second under head coach Beverly Smith. Victoria Williams, a 2017 graduate, joins Boesel as the other Gamecock to achieve the honor under Smith’s leadership.
South Carolina closed the season with a 49-17 record, finishing third in the SEC before hosting its first regional since 2002. The Gamecocks eventually advanced to the Tempe Super Regional, marking the second time in program history Carolina has advanced to the super regional round of the NCAA Postseason Tournament.
