Stachler headed to Pebble Beach for U.S. Amateur

Rising senior shot final round 65 (-7) to earn co-medalist honors.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rising senior Ryan Stachler punched his ticket to the 118th U.S. Amateur Championship on Monday after earning co-medalist honors with Stephen Behr at sectional qualifying hosted by Benvenue Country Club Club in Rocky Mount, N.C.. He finished with a two round total of 136 (-8) and was propelled to the top of the leaderboard with a final round 65 (-7).

The Alpharetta, Ga., native was sidelined with a hip injury for most of the 2017-18 season. Monday marked the one-year anniversary of the news he would need surgery that would be followed by months of intense rehab. The USGA is not unfamiliar territory for Stachler as he competed in the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont as an amateur.

Fellow rising seniors Scott Stevens and Will Miles finished fifth and sixth respectively. Stevens, who played in last year’s U.S. Amateur at Riviera, shot 139 (-5). Miles posted a 4-under score of 140 with a 3-under 69 in the final round.

This year’s U.S. Am will take place Aug. 13-19 at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif. FOX Sports will have live coverage of the event.
