Gamecocks Wrap Up Georgia Tech Invitational
Emma Barksdale won the 200 fly and South Carolina set a new school record in the women’s 400 free relay on day three at the Georgia Tech Invite.
ATLANTA, Ga.— Marissa Roth captured the first event win of the weekend for South Carolina by winning the women’s platform and Emma Barksdale set a school record with a 1:55.63 to top the A-final of the 200 butterfly. The Gamecocks also set a new school record in the 400 free relay to cap off the Georgia Tech Invitational at the McAuley Aquactic Center.
Roth posted a score of 263.50 in the women’s platform, giving the Gamecocks their lone event win of the meet.
South Carolina began the evening session with three top-five finishes in the first 1650 free of the season. Cody Bekemeyer (15:12.35) and Rafael Davila (15:15.72) finished just seconds apart to take fourth and fifth-place, respectively, on the men’s side. Kate Sanderson went 16:17.76 to take fifth-place in her first-career 1650 freestyle.
Emily Cornell finished atop the women’s 200 backstroke B-final with a time of 1:55.72 and Kevin Liu finished fifth in the men’s 200 backstroke at 1:44.68.
Albury Higgs posted a 2:10.44 in the women’s 200 breast, finishing runner-up, while Lionel Khoo went 1:58.12 in the men’s 200 breast to finish seventh.
Emma Barksdale set a new Gamecocks record with a 1:55.63 to win the women’s 200 butterfly while Melinda Novoszath (1:59.89) and Hallie Kinsey (2:00.68) finished seventh and ninth, respectively.
Fynn Minuth had yet another solid A-final swim, finishing third in the men’s 200 fly at 1:44.70.
South Carolina’s 400 free relay team of Novoszath, Christina Lappin, Cornell and Barksdale sent the Gamecocks out on a high note as they set a new school record (3:18.88) in the 400 free relay, the final event of the three-day meet.
