Down-Jenkins Named SEC Freshman of the Week

Diver earns second conference award this season.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina diver Anton Down-Jenkins was named SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week for swimming and diving in recognition of his sweeping the diving events at Saturday’s dual meet at No. 20 Georgia Tech. It is his second conference recognition this season as he shared the SEC Freshman of the Week honors on Oct. 16.

“Anton is one of the hardest working student-athletes we have on our team,” South Carolina head diving coach Todd Sherritt said. “His improvement over the past five months is absolutely incredible. It’s rare to get an athlete who is able to make changes as quickly as he does. He has had one great performance after another, which is giving him some momentum going into the championship season. Anton certainly has put himself in a position to contend for championship, and nothing would surprise me with him. He’s a real blessing to work with.”

In the final dual meet of the season, Down-Jenkin posted a season-best 369.60 on the one-meter board and won the three-meter competition with a 416.55. The sweep kept him undefeated in dual-meet competition this season and helped the Gamecocks push the nationally ranked Yellow Jackets down to the final race in the team scoring.
