Down-Jenkins Named SEC Diver of the Week

The weekly award is the third overall and second-consecutive for the freshman diver this season.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina diver Anton Down-Jenkins was recognized as the SEC Male Diver of the Week, after sweeping the men’s diving events at the S.C. College Invitational this past weekend.  Down-Jenkins, a true freshman from Wellington, New Zealand, earns his third weekly award of the season after being named SEC Freshman of the Week for the second time last Tuesday.

Down-Jenkins finished unbeaten against all competition in dual-meets through his freshman campaign after sweeping the men’s springboard events for a third-consecutive week.  He captured his seventh win of the season on the 1-meter board to begin the S.C. College Invite and followed up with his second-best score of the season (431.78) to win the 3-meter on day two.

The Gamecocks travel to Blacksburg, Va., this weekend to compete in the annual, three-day Virginia Tech Invite from Thursday to Saturday.  The VT Invite will serve as the Gamecocks’ final tune-up leading into the SEC Championships which are scheduled for Feb. 19-23 in Athens, Ga.
