Gamecocks Save Best for Last at VT Invite
Carolina had two-first place finishes and seven total top-three swims on the final day of the VT Invite.
CHRISTIANBURG, Va.- South Carolina men’s and women’s swimming and diving capped the three-day Virginia Tech Invite with its strongest day of the meet, going first-second-third in the timed women’s 400 free relay. Rebecca Cohen had the first event win of the weekend for the Gamecocks with a first-place finish in the women’s 1650 free.
South Carolina tallied six total top-three finishes on the final day of competition at the annual “Technotational” in the Christianburg Aquatic Center. Day three, which consisted of a series of timed finals, was highlighted by Cohen’s 17:16.04 to finish first in the women’s 1650 free. Megan Jones finished third in the 1650, clocking in at 18:06.26.
The 400 free relay team of Danielle Doennebrink, Jenna Pehowski, Ryann Styer, and Hannah Gerlock finished first at 3:32.27 with another pair of Gamecock relay teams finishing second and third, respectively.
Emma Scheider finished second with a 2:02.57 in the 200 back while Doennebrink (51.78) and Pehowski (51.94) finished second and third in the women’s 100 free.
