Gamecocks in Fifth After Second Round in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. – No. 16 South Carolina women’s golf matched its first-round, 6-over 294 in its second round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship and sits in fifth place. Junior Ana Pelaez led the Gamecocks in the second round and moved into a tie for sixth with freshman teammate Emily Price among others, four shots off the individual leader, at English Turn Golf and Country Club.

“Today was extremely cold and windy,” South Carolina head coach Kalen Anderson said. “The team had another strong performance, showing their resilience and discipline in adverse conditions. Unfortunately we stumbled a bit on our last three holes, but overall I’m seeing a lot to be pleased with this early in the spring. Ana [Pelaez] had an excellent round, and Emily [Price] and [Lois Kaye Go] continue to play steady.”

Pelaez moved in to the top 10 with an impressive 3-under (69) on day two. She sits ahead of 28 ranked golfers in the tough field. The junior made the turn at 2-under (34) and was bogey-free through 10 holes. She tripped up with just one bogey on the par-5 11th, but ended the round with two birdies on the par-5 15th and par-4 18th.

Early in her round, Price was in a tie for second after she carded three birdies on the front nine, including back-to-back birdies on the par-5 2nd and par-3 4th. With a total of four bogeys, and two on the back nine, Price pushed back into a tie for sixth place with a 73 for the round.

Lois Kaye Go finished her second round inside the top 20. The junior finished even (36) on the front nine, but a tough three-hole stretch on the back nine tripped up her solid round, and she finished day two at 3-over (75) and in a tie for 18th.

Carolina’s squad finished up with Anita Uwadia and Marion Veysseyre, who each finished with a 5-over 77.

The Gamecocks will be paired with Florida and Houston for the third and final round on Tuesday. All five Gamecocks will tee off at 9:00 a.m. ET on various holes.
