Records Fall on Day One of SEC Championships
Carolina set two relay school records with an individual school record from Caleb Tosh on day on
ATHENS, Ga.— South Carolina saw three program records fall on Tuesday, the first of five days at the SEC Swimming and Diving Championships in the Gabrielsen Natatorium. The Gamecocks set a pair of relay records in addition to an individual school record from Caleb Tosh to open the meet.
South Carolina started the meet off with a bang as Caleb Tosh set a Gamecocks record in the men’s 100 backstroke (46.75). The first time trials of the meet also saw lifetime bests for Emma Otten in the 100 back (54.26) and Nathan Walton in the 50 free (20.78).
Anton Down-Jenkins qualified for men’s 1-meter finals, his first career event at the SEC Championships, with 323.05 to just edge out Tennessee’s Zhipeng Zen (322.20) for eighth-place. The true freshman put up 7.5’s or higher on his fifth dive of prelims, a reverse somersault dive with a double twist, finished sixth in the evening session with a finals score of 342.85.
Marissa Roth missed out on qualifying position in the women’s 3-meter dive by less than a full point, finishing with a prelims score of 302.20.
The Gamecocks women’s 200 medley relay team of Emily Cornell, Albury Higgs, Hallie Kinsey and Christina Lappin set a new program record with Lappin touching the wall at 1:37.88. Carolina’s men’s 200 medley team consisting of Caleb Tosh, Itay Goldfaden, Lionel Khoo and Dylan Delaney followed up with another program record, finishing at 1:24.54.
South Carolina also set season-best times in both the men’s (6:22.89) and women’s 800 free relays (7:05.22) to conclude the first night of competition.

The SEC Championships will continue with day two on Wednesday with prelims beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the second night of finals beginning at 6 p.m.
