Women's Golf Finishes T-4 in Spring Opener

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Junior Lois Kaye Go made a late run to finish in the top three as No. 16 South Carolina women’s golf  finished in a tie for fourth at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship at English Turn Golf and Country Club to open the spring season. The Gamecocks matched the 888 score of Florida for top honors among the four SEC teams in the tournament.

Go made the Gamecocks’ biggest move of the day, up to third from 18th place after two rounds. She closed out her final-round 70 (-2) with four straight birdies to card her best round of the tournament and turn in a 217 (+1) for the tournament.

Freshman Emily Price held onto her sixth-place finish at 218 (+2) by turning in a 74 (+2) on Tuesday after starting her round with three birdies in her first nine holes. Ana Pelaez rounded out the trio of Gamecocks in the top 25 on the individual leaderboard, finishing the tournament with a three-round score of 225 (+9) to finish in a tie for 22nd place.

Marion Veysseyre continued her steady play in the tournament, matching her first-round score with a final-round 76 to finish tied for 41st at 229 (+13), and Anita Uwadia rounded out the Gamecocks in the field in 73rd place with a 236 (+20).

“Today was probably some of the toughest golfing conditions that we will face all year,” South Carolina head coach Kalen Anderson said. “The team hung tough and finished strong in a very deep field. LK finished with four straight birdies to finish third individually, while Marion and Emily finished even and -1 in their last seven holes. I’m pleased with the start to our spring.”

The Gamecocks have a few weeks off to prepare to host the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club on Hilton Head Island, S.C., March 8-10.
