Gamecocks Complete Second Round of Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

Hilton Head Island, S.C. – No. 10 South Carolina women’s golf completed the second round at the 2019 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate with a score of 580 (+12) as a team. Carolina is in fourth place, but remained atop the seven SEC squads in the tournament.

“I did really like the way we started today’s round,” South Carolina head coach Kalen Anderson said. “We hung in there, but on the back-nine we kind of lost our steam. Tomorrow will be better, it was a good experience for [the team].”

No. 19 Florida State (565, -3) sits atop the standings, eight strokes ahead of third-ranked Duke (573, +5) for the lead at Long Cove Club. No. 13 Wake Forest (573, +6), No. 10 South Carolina (580, +12), Furman (583, +15) and LSU (583, +15) round out the top five.

Individually, Frida Kinhult of Florida State is the leader of the 90-player field. She carded six birdies, three each on the front and back nine. She sits just one stroke ahead of the 2018 individual NCAA Champion, Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest.

Notably, Alabama’s Kenzie Wright carded a tournament-low four-under 67 in her second round.

Junior Lois Kaye Go finished the second round with the Gamecocks’ best individual score. She sank two birdies in her first six holes and finished the round with three to end with a 1-over 72 and in a tie for 13th. Freshman Emily Price was 1-under through five holes, but four bogeys on the final 13 holes saw her finish with a 3-over 74 and sitting in a tie for 13th.

“I thought our front nine was great,” Anderson said. “This is the first tournament – and this is an incredible field – that we have led. I think [the team] came out with the right mentality, and I don’t think that affected them at all. I just think we hit a bit of a wall on the back nine, lost some momentum and never really regained it.”

Coming into the round, senior Marion Veysseyre was just one stroke off the lead, but a tough back nine held her back from making noise on day two. She finished with a 5-over 76 and enters the final day in a tie for 21st.

Juniors Ana Pelaez (76) and Anita Uwadia (78) wrapped up their second rounds in a tie for 54th and 43rd, respectively.

Senior Gaby Amos finished the second round with a 5-over 76. She sank 13 pars, and is in a tie for 49th.

The third, and final, round will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. The top pairings will begin Sunday’s round at 9:40, featuring Florida State, Duke and Wake Forest.
