Gamecocks Tally Five A-Finalists at National Invitational Championship

CLEVELAND, Ohio- South Carolina had five A-finalists and three top-10 relay finishes on the first day of the CSCAA National Invitational from the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.

Carolina began the first finals session of the meet with a sixth-place finish in the 200 free relay from Phil Costin, Nathan Walton, Robbie Epler and Tamas Novoszath.  The women’s 200 free relay team of Emma Walker, Ayris Akbay, Mari Kraus and Edith Lingmann earned another 29 team points after tying for eighth-place at 1:33.22.

Tamas Novoszath finished eighth at 4:28.21 in the men’s 500 free with Will Riggs taking 10th at 4:28.90.

Nathan Walton dropped his prelim time in the 50 backstroke to finish sixth in the evening session at 22.71.

Ben Fenwick finished eighth in the men’s 200 IM at 1:48.16, closing his final 50 in 25.51.  Mari Kraus finished fifth in the women’s 200 IM with a finals time of 2:00.86.

Day two of the National Invitational Championship will continue with prelims beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET.
