Gamecocks Open NCAA Championships in Austin

Carolina swam its second-fastest 800 free relay time of the season on the first night of the 2019 NCAA Championships.

AUSTIN, Texas- South Carolina opened the 2019 NCAA Championships with a 7:13.66 in the 800 freestyle relay, the first event of the four-day meet at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Emily Cornell opened with a 1:45.95 in the Gamecocks’ first 200 leg, followed by a 1:48.16 from Melinda Novoszath, her third-fastest 200 time of the season.  Hallie Kinsey went 1:50.34 in the Gamecocks’ third leg before Edith Lingmann finished at 1:49.21 in the anchor leg.

South Carolina will look to look to improve on its 20th-place finish at last year’s NCAA Championships having traveled the largest group of individual qualifiers (11) in program history.

Emma Barksdale headlines day two for South Carolina as she looks to earn All-America honors in the 200 individual medley for a second-consecutive season after winning bronze in the event at the SEC Championships last month.

Day two will begin with the first prelims session of the week on Thursday at 10 a.m. ET, culminating in one-meter diving prelims, which is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. ET.  The second night of finals is scheduled to begin with the 200 freestyle relay on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET.
