Barksdale Hits Podium for Second-Straight Night

Carolina sits at No. 24 in the overall team standings heading into the final day of of the NCAA Championships.

AUSTIN, Texas– Emma Barksdale went 4:03.51 in the finals of the women’s 400 IM to capture another fifth-place finish for South Carolina, earning All-America honors in the event for a third-consecutive season.

Barksdale’s fifth-place finish in the 400 IM was her second-consecutive A-final appearance after finishing fifth in the 200 IM on Thursday night.  The Gamecocks senior qualified for the A-final with a 4:04.62 during the prelims session to finish second in her heat and fifth overall.

Albury Higgs just missed out on a second swim, finishing 17th in the 100 breaststroke after breaking the 1:00.00 minute for the first time in her career at 59.69.  Higgs, with her Carolina school record, just missed qualification for the B-final by less than two-tenths of a second.

The Gamecocks will have six total individuals competing on Saturday, the busiest day for Carolina so far this week.

Day four of competition will begin with prelims at 10 a.m. ET, followed by the last finals session of the week at 6 p.m. ET.
