Miles Wins SEC Golfer of the Week For Second Time
Senior won the Southern Intercollegiate on Monday in Athens
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Senior Will Miles was named SEC Men’s Golfer of the Week the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon. It’s the second time this season Miles has earned player of the week honors.
The Hilton Head Island, S.C., native, is fresh off his second collegiate win at the Southern Intercollegiate on Monday. Miles shot 136 (-8) at the one-day, 36-hole event, to win by four shots over teammate Scott Stevens. He finished with a 65 (-7) in the final round and led the 85-man field with 14 birdies.
The 15th-ranked Gamecocks won the tournament by 20 shots, picking up their third win in six outings this spring.
Miles picked up his first career win at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate back on March 12. He shot 197 (-13) which is tied for the second lowest 54-hole score in program history.
With his victory earlier this week, Miles joined All-Americans Keenan Huskey, Matt NeSmith and Kyle Thompson as the only players in program history to win multiple times in the same season.
Miles finished the regular season with a 70.57 scoring average, the fourth lowest average all-time at South Carolina. He also ranks sixth currently for career scoring average (72.42) as well. He started all 10 events with 18 rounds of par or better in 28 outings.
The Gamecocks begin the postseason next week at the SEC Championship (April 24-28) in St. Simons Island, Ga., at Sea Island Golf Club. Click here for more information on the conference tournament.
