The Gamecocks will return to action this Wednesday against Furman.

COLUMBIA –The University of South Carolina baseball team was swept at home by Vanderbilt in its only contests of the week.

NOTES:
Andrew Eyster had a very productive weekend at the plate, going 5-for-7 (.714) with a double, a home run and three RBI. On the year, Eyster is hitting .288, which leads the team, with eight doubles, seven home runs and 23 RBI.

The Gamecocks retired the jersey of Earl Bass on Saturday night before the game was rained out. Bass’ No. 13 is now on the wall in left field next to Ray Tanner’s No. 1. Bass was a two-time All-America first team selection who leads the Gamecock record book in shutouts, ERA and strikeouts.

Jacob Olson also had a good weekend at the dish, going 5-for-9 with a double, a home run and four RBI. Olson leads the Gamecocks with 13 home runs to go along with a .273 batting average, 12 doubles and 34 RBI.

Brett Kerry went 4.2 innings of relief for the Gamecocks in the series finale, allowing just three hits, two in the final inning, while striking out a pair. Kerry is now 3-1 with a 2.81 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 48 innings of work.

Carolina will return to the diamond on Wednesday night, hosting Furman before Kentucky comes to town for a three-game SEC series. Saturday afternoon will be Senior Day at Founders Park.
