Boesel Named Academic All-American For Second-Straight Year

AUSTIN, Texas —- South Carolina softball’s Mackenzie Boesel earned a spot on the 2019 Academic All-America Division I Softball First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the national organization announced Thursday. 
 
Boesel, a junior, is just the third Gamecock in program history to earn a first team selection and the first since 2006. She is the third player in program history earn multiple CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and the first since 2009.
 
A native of Yorba Linda, Calif., Boesel hit .356 with 52 runs, 64 hits, eight home runs and 37 runs batted in. In the classroom, she completed her undergraduate degree in just three years with a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in Sport and Entertainment Management. She was also named to the 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team.
 
This marks the 11th Academic All-American honor in program history and the third under head coach Beverly Smith.
